Is there any food included?
Food is not provided as standard. Meal deals are available for £15pp.
Is there a badge to commemorate the camp?
No, but there is a selection of badges on sale in the shop.
How do the activities work?
You are given a timetable on arrival. Your group is split up into groups of 4 to 6 participants and mixed with other groups to make up activity groups of around 12 participants. Each group gets a full structured session on each activity. This guarantees everyone gets a fair go on every activity.
What if we don’t want to go to Southend on the day out?
Although the site doesn’t organise anything back at the campsite, there is plenty for you to do locally, with Clements Hall Swimming Pool just 10 minutes walk away and 360 acres of Hockley Woods just 5 minutes walk or a hike to Hullbridge to go crab fishing.
How do we get to Southend?
A team of Belchamps Staff will walk the whole group going to Southend, to the station (approx 30 minutes), then by train to Southend (approx 15 minutes), and walk to the seafront (approx 20 minutes). A meeting point and time is arranged for the return journey. Staff are available all day in Southend. Although this sounds a lot of walking, our experience is that the children love the whole day, we have videos and pictures of the entire group walking down Southend High Street singing campfire songs as they go. Lasting memories.
Do leaders have to pay £20 to go on the Adventure Island trip?
No, leaders who don’t want to go on the rides can just take the day trip to Southend option. Entry to the Adventure Island Park is free; you only need a wristband if you are going on the rides.
How many people attend this event?
Normally between 100 and 300 in total. It’s a small, friendly event where you really do get to know the other campers, and both leaders and young people make new friends. It’s a good mix of all age ranges and sections too, with plenty of Brownies, Cubs, Guides, Scouts, Explorers and Rangers.
What activities are there?
All our site activities plus a range of extra fun ones, plus some hired in ones such as quad bikes, laser clays, inflatables etc. There is also a large well run ‘Its a Knockout’ competition. There is a disco one night plus campfires.
